Sternklang

Nowhere else can you get real musicality for this prize and beyond.

Innovative signal cables from Japan

You don't even have to reach for the stars, you can simply plug them in and experience music. Sternklang high-end cables offer extreme silence and a downright atomically compressed image of the instruments. These sensitive and equally sensitive cables have a very special approach and result.

What does developer and founder Koji Teramura say about his innovation?

The concept of star sound cables is “to maximize the rate of energy metabolism” or “to minimize the load on the cable conductor (cable wire).” We believe that the sound quality of an audio cable is determined by the balance between the “vibrational properties” of the conductor and the “load” acting on the surface of the conductor per unit area. The “load” is generated by the mass of the insulator and the contact pressure of the insulator on the conductor. The insulator has three functions: It should insulate, stop the resonance of the conductor and not transmit any external vibrations to the conductor. The amount of load required to stop the resonance of a conductor is proportional to the multiplication of the “elastic modulus” and the “mass” of the conductor. The “modulus of elasticity” is determined by the “material and cross-sectional shape” of the conductor. We have drawn the following conclusions from our experience. Conductors that only require a “low” load to prevent resonances have a lively sound. And the attenuation of high-frequency signals with small amplitudes (rich in spatial information) is reduced. In addition, the idea of “an insulator that transmits no external vibrations to a conductor” actually has the opposite effect. The cable made with this idea actually traps the energy of the external vibration into the cable and dampens the music. Our cable therefore eliminates the idea of an “insulator that does not transmit external vibration to a conductor.” The Ephemera Series Conductor is a copper foil with a thickness of 0.035 mm and a width of 7 mm. Compared to round wires with the same cross-section, it has eight times the surface area and extremely low elasticity. Therefore, the load per unit area required to stop the resonance of the conductor is 1/8 or less of the round wire. The Sarume series introduces the concept of ephemera into coaxial geometry that is resistant to noise and challenges the limits of “energy metabolism” as a cable that uses a round strand. An alloy of silver and gold with low elasticity is used for the conductor. It seems to us that a strand of an audio cable is not a solid body, but a living organism in which numerous cells breathe. Each cell has its own vibration-damping function and they all work together. The numerous cells should therefore not be smothered with insulators.

Our experiences...

In our own test system and those of our customers, these statements by Koji Teramura confirm in practice. The calm in the sound image is exemplary, which enables a wonderfully tangible, sculptural representation of space. If you don't know this peace, you immediately think that something is missing. But this assumption is a mistake that explains itself when you have heard a few pictures with different sizes. There is absolutely nothing missing here, except a previously existing carpet of noise, which often makes the sound appear artificially “blown up.” However, it is much more important to be able to experience the emotions and musicality of the pieces of music more intensively than was previously possible. The silence in the signal — less noise — clears the way for the fine information and thus allows us to dive much deeper into what is happening. Music can be experienced emotionally, not through the intellect. Sternklang simply opens up new opportunities here. Both cable series — Sarume and Ephemera - Have currently outgrown the secret tip status. It can be said with absolute certainty that these cables offer the best value for money on the entire market. You should try out whether they may be the final cables for you. But be careful...addictive factor.

The Sarume model is the smaller of the two series. Here, the technology of the Ephemera series is converted into a coaxial structure. The first choice for a phono connection to protect the fine signal streams from external influences. These cables are available as: Analogue RCA or XLR, phono RCA and/or MiniDin, Digital SPDIF | Star sound - innovative handmade cables from Japan.

No shielding, no contact pressure on the signal conductor. With this cable, the signal is not affected, which you immediately understand when you hear the first bars of music. The entire structure is designed in such a way that there is no reduction in energy in the music. Care was also taken to ensure that the copper conductor does not tend to oscillate naturally, which does not result in disharmonious overtones. Pure music, in all its colors. Full of life, music in its purest form. These cables are available as: Loudspeaker cable With banana or bare gold-plated ends, Analogue RCA or XLR, Digital SPDIF

Ephemera series user manual

Please be sure to follow the “Handling Precautions.” This is intended to maximize the performance of the Ephemera series and be used — usually — for many years.

  1. Please order the total length of the cable with a margin so that the cables connected to the components can be relaxed. “No stress” is more important than “shortest route.”
  2. When connecting or unplugging the cable, “hold” the plug and “plug and unplug vertically” so that no force is applied to the cable body. Installing and unplugging without holding the plug in place, and attaching and unplugging while turning the plug may damage the cable body.
  3. If you bring the vacuum cleaner close to the ephemera cable, there is a risk of it being sucked in and damaged. When using the vacuum cleaner, lift or remove the cables and then crawl onto the floor.
  4. Please watch out for small children and pets. The Sheen of Ephemera and the Slight Trembling seem to be particularly attractive for cats.

Why do Sternklang signal cables have no protective insulation?

The high-end signal cables from developer Koji Teramura follow the concept of minimizing the load on the cable conductor. The conductive copper foil is designed in such a way that it does not vibrate even as a result of the current flowing through it. As a result, no immobilizing insulation is required. Insulation also exerts undefined pressure on the conductor and the energy rate. Any pressure on the conductor changes its properties. Sternklang cables are therefore sensitive but incredibly musical.

Are there power cables from Sternklang Japan?

Sternklang itself offers power cables, but they cannot be sold in Germany due to lack of CE certification.

Are Sternklang high-end cables protected from external radiation (HF)?

The Ephemera series has no shielding and is not protected against interference. This can be heard in extreme situations; in most cases, the ephemera cables still sound better (more musical) than most competitor products. The Sarume series cables have a coaxial construction and are protected against interference.

What is the difference between Sarume and Ephemera?

With the Saruma series from Sternklang, the concept was implemented with a round conductor and this was built coaxially. The ephemera cable has the optimized flat conductor and therefore has more conductive area (cross section), which enables a higher energy density.
