My way

Dear readers,

I would like to describe my first encounter with Thomas Schlipper from Subbase Audio. A good acquaintance gave me the tip to order Subbase Audio in-house. So I called Thomas Schlipper to make an appointment. Thomas came to my house without obligation to check out my hi-fi system and I was actually sure that the system was well set up and connected with good cables. Thomas also went straight to work and listened to one of the CDs he had brought along to get an impression. After a few minutes, it was clear to him that there was a lot to improve here and I was very surprised when he told me that there was still a good 100% potential in this system. I wondered how he was going to do that, since I had already invested in cables, bases and equipment feet - from specialist retailers.

He began to correct the positioning of the loudspeakers and tighten the loudspeaker screws using a torque wrench. As a result of this measure, my system immediately gained more shape and control in the music. Next, he set up his loudspeaker bases with ebony feet under my loudspeakers and my boatmen plates disappeared along with spikes. What a change in sound! The bass was significantly drier and deeper than before and the sound was even more detached from the loudspeakers.

Thomas then lent me the loudspeaker bases. The first non-binding session of 4 hours was already over. How fast time flies.

I later made a second appointment with Thomas to make his on-site service services (regular Subbase concept). At the second appointment, he brought quite a bit of material with him, started with power cables, then speaker cables and NF cables from Refine audio. His equipment bases and something to improve the room acoustics (Hifine cylinder) were also in his luggage. So Thomas set to work and began to clean all contacts of the devices and check all screws using torque. We also changed the fine-tuning system (Refine audio).

Then came the first listening test with the CD that Thomas had brought with him - Melanie De Biasio. We listened to the song “With all my love.” The first measures were already taking effect. There was more room, the voice sounded more concise and had more charm.

Next, we changed the cables. We started by swapping all device power cables for Refine cables and listened to the same track from the CD again. I was amazed at what power cords make! The chain played completely differently. The voice suddenly sounded much bigger and stronger, the room became even bigger and you could really hear the press of a button on the piano.

The next step was the Ultima NF cable and the series speaker cable. We have now listened to a new CD from Joel Grare. In the beginning, a violin plays. What a recording. The system played with a calm and overview that I had not heard before. I didn't expect that the necklace would be able to reproduce something like that, the sound was breathtaking for me. The room was as authentic and the violin as if played live, what a change.

Now I wanted to listen to a CD of myself and was thinking about which one I should just choose. I decided to put on a CD from Malia. What a sound... the bass played beautifully deep and dry with control, the voice was just standing in front of me in the room, just amazing!!! Where should the trip go if we take the other measures.

Now the device bases (Composant S) were used, which came under preamp, CD player and turntable. I then listened to Malia's CD again and what can I say, you could drive to a level that was not possible before. The sound floated even lower and blacker in the bass room, the room even wider and the voice was as if chiseled on stage.

The last thing that came into play was room tuning. Thomas set to work and began to distribute the room acoustic elements he brought along. The listening experience had changed significantly once again, with even more harmonious sound and naturalness. What a day for me!

When Thomas dismantled everything again and I rebuilt my cabling and bases, I was disappointed. What a loss of sound! It wasn't fun at all to listen to music anymore. I simply had to have the parts offered, so I gradually started ordering from Thomas, as my wallet would allow, in order to improve my investment. He also always brought the cables and device bases in person to connect them himself and listen to a rehearsal, which I really appreciate because this service is not available everywhere.

We've been in contact for 3 years and Thomas also calls to demonstrate his new products. I recently treated myself to Shambala. It is revelation in sound and quality. Thomas delivered it to my house and set it up. Set up all devices optimally and rewire the system. I can only recommend that everyone try it out and talk to Thomas about music. It's just fun to enjoy music like that.

What Thomas sets up is not available everywhere. The changes in sound are understandable to everyone, regardless of the type of music.

Kind regards Ralph H.
